Between June 2000 and September 2004 I was working as a programmer and system developer for Bankenes BetalingsSentral (BBS) in Oslo.

BBS - The Norwegian Banks Payment Services Company - was the market-leading provider of payment services to the Norwegian banks. In 1999, BBS handled transactions equivalent to something like five thousand billion USD. BBS employed around 600 people with nearly 200 developing and maintaining the IT systems.

I was involved in the following projects/activites:

  • eFaktura - a national electronic bill payment and presentment system (50+ people involved)
  • iBank - developing parts of the internet bank for Kreditkassen (~10 people involved)
  • DnB Avtalegiro Online - online access into our Avtalegiro (automatic payment by agreement) system (~5 people involved)
  • Distribusjonsprosjektet - distribution of financial information from the Banks to their customers. (~20 people involved)
  • Java community - involved in building up a strong Java community at BBS (~30 people involved)
  • WebSphere on OS/390 - establish a WebSphere production environment for J2EE applications running on the mainframe. (~5 people involved)
  • WebSphere cluster - establish a WebSphere production environment on a cluster of Solaris boxes. (~3 people involved)
  • Technical community - involved in strengthening the technical community at BBS (~150 people involved)
  • Palm/PinPad/GPRS prototype - demonstrating a mobile EFTPOS solution using a Palm Pilot, Intellect 6515 and a Siemens M45 (~1 person)
  • Terminal 2000 - a study of future EFTPOS technology (~10 people involved)
  • SCPJ2 - leading a group of developers through the preperation for the Sun Certified Java Programmer exam (16 developers passed the exam)
  • IBM 486 - leading a group of developers through the preperation for the IBM 486 exam (29 developers passed the exam)
  • Unix community - involved in building up a strong Unix community at BBS (~100 people involved)
  • EFTPOS terminal SW - developing software for EFTPOS terminals (~6 people involved)
